Micronutrient tests

Screenshot 2019-11-19 at 09.07.25Either a deficiency or excess in micronutrients can lead to increased oxidative stress and chronic inflammation, an impaired immune system, and an increased risk of chronic diseases including heart disease, arthritis, dementia and cancer. Micronutrients include vitamins, essential minerals, fatty acids and phytochemicals.

Even with a healthy diet, we cannot be certain that we are achieving the correct balance of nutrients. Taking mineral and vitamin supplements may do more harm than good, as they can either overcorrect a baseline normal level or give false confidence that they contain the right mix of ingredients to combat a deficiency. The most reliable way to ensure you have the correct amount of vital nutrients in your diet is to measure your body’s levels. An accurate measure of these nutrients will enable you to modify your diet accordingly or take specific supplements.

The test, designed by Professor Robert Thomas, an experienced oncologist and professor of biological and sports science with a research interest in the field of lifestyle, nutrition and wellbeing, in collaboration with a nutritional laboratory, measures the essential micronutrients which have been implicated in the chronic disease pathway, including cancer…. read more

This test is recommended for people who want to develop a much more comprehensive understanding of their nutritional status. It provides clear and specific guidance on which foods to avoid and which to eat more of in order to restore nutritional harmony. The test will provide recovering from or experiencing chronic diseases, including cancer, with reassurance or corrective guidance to ensure they are in the strongest position to fight their disease

Combining the important tests into one profile makes this the most cost-effective way of measuring over fifty micronutrients.

What the micronutrient test includes

This test analyses chemicals in the blood which are not routinely checked by a GP or hospital doctors. Unlike other nutritional tests available privately, it does not include test you can generally ask your GP for and cost nothing. The test analyses:

  • Fat-soluble vitamin A profile – Retinol,
  • Alpha & beta-Carotene
  • Vitamin E profile – alpha and gamma tocopherol
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D – full profile (D3 & D2)
  • Polyphenol levels of lycopene
  • Phytochemical levels of lutein
  • Essential fatty acid profile
  • Levels of omega 3, omega 6 and omega fats
  • Saturated fat levels
  • Essential fatty acid ratios
  • Antioxidant enzymes (Glutathione peroxidase, Superoxide dismutase)

How to order the micronutrient test?

The process is very straightforward, and if there are any issues please email [email protected]

Step 1
Click on the pay now link, below, to take you to the Paypal site where you can securely pay with credit or debit card. You will receive a confirmation email once payment has been acknowledged.

Step 2
The laboratory will then send you a kit containing tubes for blood samples, packaging and an addressed envelope. It is recommended that you stop taking any dietary supplements you are currently using for at least 48 hours before the blood test. Ideally, the test should be done earlier in the week, so it doesn’t reach the lab late on a Friday.

Step 3
You then have to go to your local blood taking facility to take the blood sample (usually your GP’s practice or a phlebotomy room in your local hospital – some phlebotomy centres may charge a small fee for this).  In the unlikely event that you are having trouble getting someone to take the blood, you are very welcome to go directly to the lab in central London ( the address will be on the packaging). After the blood has been taken label the pots, put them into the packaging and envelope provided and post as soon as possible.

Step 4 (your report)
Professor Thomas will review your individual results, write your report and provide specific dietary and lifestyle advice relevant to your individual results. This may include advising you to eat more of some types of foods, less of others and, if necessary, taking specific supplements for a designated period of time.

Cost, buying and ordering

The test is £299.00. We use Paypal to process the payment. You do not have to be a member of PayPal to use this service – just click on pay by credit card when prompted.

This is not a test for detecting cancer and does not replace advice from your medical team. Although this test appears expensive, its current cost is the lowest currently available in the UK. Cancernet only adds a 10% charge to the laboratory cost of these tests in order to pay for the PayPal fees and administration. If you have questions about the test, please email [email protected]
